Recently I have had some celebrations including my Wife's birthday.
As is customary we go to a very nice restaurant and this involves the consumption of some very nice wine.
Given my wine travels and purchasing from cellar doors I usually struggle to find a bottle of wine in a fancy restaurant that I would consider good value for money! Most times the wine prices are more then the meals!
The key however is to be savvy and know your regions and varieties. This will mean you will usually find some decently priced bottles that still give you a lovely wine experience.
So what is the key to ordering wine at a restaurant?
My suggestion is if you don't want to overspend on wine, don't necessarily go for the named bottles - an unknown wine is usually just as good, if not better...if the grapes match the region.
